My First Day

The ground was covered in a thin white blanket of frost. I knew today was the day, the day to start fresh and meet new people. I slowly stroll over to the bus stop that happened to be just around the corner. When i reach the small shelter, the smell of musty clone hits me, from the tall, lanky boy standing over in the corner. I step out to check for the bus but still no sign of it. I have to wait about 20 minutes before it arrives. As i step up onto the bus i just stop. I hear the people behind me moaning and telling me to hurry up. I look around and see a free seat over by the window, I spend the whole time looking out the window trying to imagine what today will be like.

About 45 minutes later i see my new school getting closer and closer, my heart sinks at the sight of it. Eventually the bus parks up behind the school along with 3 others. I bring myself to get up and actually hop off the bus. When i stumble out i notice the air is cold and crisp, I  stand there for a while admiring the huge buildings. I walk off towards the back entrance that leads straight into the canteen where most of the year 9 and 10’s hangout. I hurry down the hallway darting my eyes across the halls looking for any sign of the office. As i hit the end corridor on the east side of the school i see a huge sign reading ‘Office’ with an arrow pointing straight ahead. I get to the student entrance and hobble in, the office secretary greets me, asks for my name then tells me to sit down on the couch in the corner. I can smell her floral scent from here. A short, chubby woman walks through and glances at me as she heads towards the small opening near the side of the desk. She talks to the guys in the back then comes back out.

“Morgan?”
Her voice is scratchy. I stand up and we walk to the class right across from the office.
“This is your new class, your form teacher” she points over to the desk in the back “Is Mrs Wheeler, I'm going to put over here with Breigh and Leah.”
My heart drops. I sit silently ignoring everyone.

I hear a ringing, kind of like a doorbell and everyone stands up and starts heading to their next class. I grab my timetable to check what class i’m in.
“You’re in A6 i can walk you if you want.” whispers a voice behind me.
I turn around and Breigh is Standing behind me. I nod and walk off. She grabs my bag and pulls me back towards the class.
“wrong way.”
I smile and follow her slowly. A wave of relief washed over me, I already had one friend how hard can making friends be?

The bell rings again an hour later.
“You have computers, my class is on the other side of the school so you're on you’re own for this one”, she walks off the opposite direction.
I hesitate before walking off. I don’t want to be late the fact that i would have to walk in and everyone would stare at me freaked me out. I speed walk down the corridors checking the numbers on the classrooms.
“S1, S2, S3, S4, S…..5.”
I step into the line just as the second bell rings. I look down and try to avoid eye contact as i step into the classroom. I feel someone grab my shoulder and pull me back.
“ Hi you must be Morgan, I’m Miss Chowfin”, She has a strange accent, i can't identify where she's from, but i have never heard it before. She walks me over to the other side of the classroom and sits me down with Leah.
“Leah will help catch you up”, She whispers, then walk towards the front again and starts demanding instructions to the rest of my computer class. Leah guides me through what they have done during the year and what we will be moving onto. The rest of the day was a blur and Leah was the only person in every class with me.
“5 more minutes then you're home free.” Leah says with a bit of a chuckle.
“Hmm I guess.”
“She talks!”, Someone says with excitement. The rest of the class giggle.
“Yeah…?”, I try to hide the confusion in my voice.
I put my head down and start on my work again for the last 5 minutes. The final bell rings and everyone sprints out the door apart from breigh.

“I will walk you to your bus.”,
“Thanks.”
We don’t talk until I get to the bus where we both say bye and I get on the bus and back into my seat from this morning.

  2. Good job. Your story was a really good read, and something that no one else has written about. I liked how you included other people throughout the story. Really enjoyed, but i feel if it was a bit shorter i would enjoy it a little bit more :)
